I don't have his publications, but I have read his web pages over the years.
I suspect this isn't a case of going astray, but misapplication of the data.
Without knowing for certain, I would be inclined to suspect that in his wood strip data he was working with small boats like kayaks, and in the wood panel data he was working with large work boats. Reading his web pages are what leads me to suspect this. That and I am unaware of any large boats being built as strippers, with the exception of the occasional novelty.
For with those rules, boat dimensions do have to play a part. 6 oz sheathing can work fine for an 18' kayak, but will not probably perform adequately on a 60' cruiser.
