To put the VCP hatches in my Patuxent I made what amounted to a flat bottom bowl by stacking rings of plywood. I smoothed off the stepped edges with a surform tool. The VCP hatch sits on the flat bottom. The top of the bowl is curved to match the curve of the deck. The gap-filling properties of epoxy are really good.
