I think it's the inevitable result of Nick's book. I bet a lot of people on this bbs have purchased it, read it, and got excited about building one of Nick's designs (at least that's my story). We all must have had the same questions at the same time.
The Guillemot is the sleekest of the three boats in the book and choosing that to build it was a no-brainer. The other two are a bit too 'lumbering' for me. Of course, if Nick would have put all his high perfomance boat offsets (e.g., Expedition Single) in the book, his plan sales would dry up, and we wouldn't want that!
Guillemot progress: I'm slowly stripping the hull. I like the look of the cheater strips, but they sure do slow down stripping. I'm ready to turn the sharp corner on the bilge. I'm using bead & cove strips, and right now I don't have any half-width strips. I was thinking of ripping a 3/4" strip right down the middle, but tilting the tablesaw at about 10 degrees. Then I could use the beaded strip first, and reverse the cove strip and just butt it to the first half. I imagine I'll still have to plane some areas, and in other areas the bevel will be too much, but it shouldn't leave too much of a gap. All this to avoid setting up the router again to do more milling. Any thoughts on this idea?
