This came up with my Cheasapeake 17 last yr. I found it was a real pain filling the gap later (after I had rounded over the edge I had to go back multiple times with thickened epoxy).
My plan for the next boat is to flip the boat over after the deck is attached but before I trim off the edges - I'll then drip a bead of epoxy onto the edge and let it soak into the gap and fill any holes.
(Plus, of course, next time I'll do a better job planing down the edge).
