Any type of sandal or open shoe, even the ones with a boxed toe, will shovel a lot of mud or sand into the boat. Best thing in warm months is an aquasock-type thing, cheap is fine. Neoprene booties for the colder months, but these get pretty uncomfortable under a hot deck in the summer. For any footwear, as another responder said, make sure the back of the heel is comfy resting against the hull for long periods. My Deep-Sea (?) neoprene booties aren't. :^(
