I made a simple jig from scrap I'll try to describe it. I made a wedge 1 to 8 slope from maple, sawed it in half lengthwise, and glued them to a piece of scrap 12 or so inches long, separated by the width of the cedar strips. I glued some formica on the top of the wedges,to make a smooth ,non grabby surface.I clamp the cedar in the jig,and use a sharp 1 1/2" chisel, layed flat on the wedges,to pare the the scarf. For plywood,I made a scarfing jig 1 to 12 ,using wedges as above, and made a car(no better word occurs to me) that held my router, and just slid the car around on the wedges.I had to make 40 joints for a boat I built, some 48",and every scarf was invisible. It took time to make, but it saved even more in the long run .I made the car from angle iron and maple scrap.I have lots of maple ,as I pick up maple furniture from curbside-it is well seasoned ,free and the best thing for jigs and shop projects Hope I helped I found using a block plane to make a scarf fairly simple, the only
