we too have a volvo wagon. Depending on the year, you should notice a square shape on the front an rear bumpers about 2" x 2". It'll look like a removable piece. If you pop it off (it snaps on and off), underneath is a place to screw in heavy duty (massive) eyelets used for towing the car i think (If my wife was here with the car, I'd look it up to tell you what their really called). We've put these in when we transport our yaks and they provide perfect tiedown points. It should be mentioned in your owners manual, plus a huge eyelet should've come with the car (if you have the screw holes).
