Thanks folks. I appreciate the feedback.

My current thought is that I can always add either homemade or store-bought braces later (althought getting inside will be a bit harder down the road): I've got a suply of minicell, so I'll start out with the padded bulkhead and see if I want to make changes after we've been on a few long paddles and played in a few waves together.
