Well, I can't speak to the best forum. And I don't know how much folks around this forum get excited about fiberglass hulls and wood decks. Seems like our affinities run most strongly to wood. But I know its been done, at least in new construction. Check out http://www.woodennickelkayaks.com/.

: I enjoy reading this board immensly and would like to ask the following: Does
: anyone else besides out there think about cutting off the deck of an older
: fiberglass kayak and replacing it with a stripped deck? Or how about
: changing out that ocean cockpit for a keyhole while lowering the area
: behing the cockpit for easier laybacks? Call me nuts but I have found and
: purchased a couple of old glass boats for short money and I want to try.
: Is this the best section to post such ideas? Or would a additional forum for
: fiberglass/wood modification be worth considering? I have been working on
: a Night Heron stripper on and off for a few months and am enjoying the
: process but I am honestly more intrigued with glass hull / stripper deck
: method. Would appreciate your thoughts.
