Greetings,
Just finishing the hull on my Night Heron... finally!
I'm using the inner stems Nick describes in his 'Building Notes' and plan to add ash strips to both outer stems.
I've trimmed my end strips up and started planing a 1/2" surface to accept the ash trim. I will be ripping 1/8" strips and planned to use three strips at each stem. This 3/8" lam build will be planed down to realise a 3/8" radius.
My question is how far down the keel should I run these strips? (my boat will see plenty of rocky shores) Should they be run down to the tips of the 'football' or should I go further?
And to making fairing the strips in easier, should one perhaps step out the strips ends at the keel so I don't have an abrupt 3/8" end of the ash lam strip? I would think stepping the layers out 2-3" might be a good plan.
Thank, all.
