: I intend to build a Cirrus hybrid. I already have the s&g plans. This year I
: built a CLC Ch17 and the construction was fairly simple. The plans for the
: Cirrus call for a strongback to be built. I am wondering if this is
: necessary. My Ch17 is very accurate and tracks like a train using saw
: stools and winding sticks. Any opinions on the need for a storgback?
Hello Bris,
Before deciding to build a "stripper", I looked closely at S&G designs. One of the things that bothered me about most of those was the gaurantee of straight correct hull design. Some designs actually call for the builder to "eyeball" the hull after stitching to determine the accuracy, calling for the builder to twist the hull into correct alignment. If I had chosen a S&G, the Cirrus would have been on my short list because of the strongback with external forms for alignment and internal forms for proper shape. Once the strongback and forms are built, you will not need a tape measure again. Send an email to Vaclav. He responds very quickly to questions.
