I have one pair of Malone J-Cradles I use for my Tern, next to my little tupperboat on a pair of old Yakima saddles. I like the cradles. I think the stresses put on the hull by the straps and by bumps in the road are less with the cradles than the saddles, and they are also easier to load/unload. I think the hull has better protection on the roof than on a trailer because the car's shocks are better, and the height lessens the chance of pebbles and road debris dinging the hull. Plus no storage or parking issues. So unless you'll be adding further to the fleet, I recommend cradles.
