Hi John,

Some boat builders are suggesting the use of PL Polyurethane adhesives and sealants for different applications rather than the expensive 3M 5200/4200. PL makes several different types of Polyurethane sealants and adhesives as well as some that are NOT polyurethane, so carefully read the label! (and the MSD and Tech sheets).

The advantage is price and availability....PL price is less than 1/2 of 3M, and is available from Home Depot and other sources. I've been using the PL Premium Polyurethane Construction adhesive around the house, and I like it. It costs about $2.50 for 10 oz tube; $5.00 for 29 oz cartridge. I've added some links below. The Ploy window sealant is about $4 in my area.

Please Note: I'm certainly not advocating the use of PL as a substitute for epoxy in structural boatbuilding applications....
