I don't think that shelac is the way to go. You want the epoxy to bond well to the wood and that may interfere. Maybe some of the others with more knowledge in this area would like to weigh in?
Have fun on that frozen stuff! Down here they don't know what a snow shovel is and have never seen an ice scraper..
