You've described pretty much what I did to make a table saw out of a circular saw years ago. As a Peace Corps volunteer in the Fiji Islands, we had a very tight budget but we had a generator that could power a circular saw to make bee hives. It worked out well, except that circular saws are not meant for very continuous work, so they can burn out if not allowed to rest every 10 minutes or so.
