Yes...I've used a laser level to align the forms and/or mark keel lines. I usually use a stringline, but the basic idea is still the same. Getting everything straight and aligned gives you a solid basis for the construction of you kayak. Keeping everything plumb and level helps you check your progress and make corrections if need as you go.
Shucks...I can't remember about Elmers. Most of the white and yellow glues are polyvinyl acetate adhesives...though the yellow glues can be specialy formulated and may be refered to as an aliphatic resin glue. I believe Titebond II is a crosslinked PVA glue which gives better water resistance. Anyway...I have used the old white glue down in the forties with no problem. I don't recommend it though. A lot of times I'll use glue during the warm part of the day even though I know it's going to get cold at night...because the glue has time to set before it gets cold. I believe Titebond II states on the bottle that you can't use it under 55 degrees. I know that is true. It starts seperating, or clabbering. Warm it up, mix it up, and it's ok. Old habits about glue die hard. I know that it says on some of the glues it's ok to use even if it has frozen in the bottle. I don't care what it says. I throw it out if it freezes. So...what I'm saying is to read the bottle. The directions will tell you.
