I've built three paddles - two solid-shaft and one break-down - using spruce for the shaft, 3mm or 4mm ply for the blades, and epoxy to hold the whole shebang together. Been using 'em for three years, work just fine for us. Very light, serviceable paddles for flatwater use that you can customise 'til the cows come home to get just what you want. Bug-simple to build, very cheap (under $25 Cdn.) and quick (about 6-8 hrs.) If anyone wants the diagram and instructions via e-mail, drop me an "e" at either rhayes@nfld.com of vk1nf@yahoo.ca
N/C, of course :->))
