: G'Day Charles, I just had a look at your Guillemot L piccys. What a beautiful
: boat. How heavy disdit end up with the walnut? Fantastic.

Hey Bris,

Thanks for the comments and I agree! The walnut is a beautiful wood. Its a shame that its so heavy - just like red oak - sigh - sigh. And if you have to fill any cracks in the walnut -- its almost undetectably. But I must confess, it does have a few flaws.

Some others wanted to know about the weight of my kayaks also,(Shawn Baker-I think, asked about one of them so far back that I don't remember which one)so, I rigged up a balance on a roller and did my best to get a weight on both. Much to my disbelief, they both weighed more than I thought(though not by much). My wife's Guillemot weighed in at 60 pounds and my Guillemot "L" came in at 62 pounds. Thats ready to go. (Shawn, I apologize for the delay)

However, if I decide to go with a "Happy Bottom seat"(tho it doesn't make my bottom happy)like my wife uses and the foot braces from "Duckworks", instead of all that woodwork, I can drop 7 pounds from my "L". BTW: I did Nicks "expedition" layup on my wife's Guilly plus a little extra under the deck, in the cockpit area. That was just in case I decided to put my big butt in there. It also has red oak on about 2/3'S of the flat part of the hull. That boats built for paddlin' in hurricanes!! This would have been a good year to put it to the test!

Happy Building.

Charles.
