I have the kayak upside down while the compartment is being glued to the under deck with thicken epoxy and short fiberglass strans for strength. I haven't cleaned off the excess lip holding cement yet as you can see in the picture. I added a velcro strip for added lid security in rough water. I will have to buy a new smaller set of binoculars to fit into the compartment. I put water into the compartment with the lid on and turned it upside down and had a little water leakage. I think that is because the strip tubing isn't completely symetrical and it forces the lip to be slightly out of shape. Had I eliminated the portion of the lip flange that is glued inside of the tube it would be water tight I think. But I will go with what I have for now.
