That race is held between the North Shore and the Island of Iles Aux Coudres. A ferry boat service was inaugurated in 1959 but prior to that, crossing the ice with a boat was the only way to cover the 8 km run to get to the island to deliver mail, food or provide medical attention and this was done several time per week. Today it is a friendly race to commemorate the tradition.
