I used to feel the same way. Then I built a tandem. Now I want a rudder. It's a great boat and can be turned with a lean but you wind up fighting it most of the time just to go straight. Even experienced paddlers have trouble because we just don't have the whole mind reading thing down yet. A rudder just makes it easy and makes for a lot more enjoyable outing.

I suspect I will still never resort to putting a rudder on my solo boats but rudders do have their places.
