I don't, unless you paddle in 12" deep, rocky rivers/lakes with 11-1/2" of water in them.

Strippers get scratches, but 98% are superfical. Not really enough damage to worry about.
The really nice thing is new coat of varish will make them dissapear.

I've worked on whitewater boats where a graphite coating makes sense.

I know. It's hard to get those first few scratches. On my first strippers,
I'd lay a foam pad on the shore and place my boat on it. Then pick it up
and gently place it in the water. Same thing on the way out.

Now I just paddle them right up on the shore, unless I've got breaking waves
on rocks.
