This is a picture of our first, well first after the cockpit area, fiber glassing experience.
The Chesapeake Light Craft instruction video show a confident fellow pour epoxy on the middle of the keel and spreading it out with a squeegee.
We tried that on this first one.
This was a four panel hull and we set out to get the keel panels done first and the epoxy dripped down the sides of the shear panel. Some of this epoxy contacted the cloth and hardened, so it could not be wet out.
We had a section of cloth that couldn't be wet out.
My partner suggest lifting up the cloth and putting epoxy between the cloth and the wood. I suggest as a fix that we just peal it off while it was easy and sand and patch the next day.
I was right.
We did about a foot his way and a foot my way. His way we had difficult but bad fiberglass to remove before we patched. My way we just sanded and then patched.
But the surprise was that it patched very well and you couldn't see the patch afterwards. So that should reduce your fears.
However, all fears of not pleasing your wife are valid. It is much easier to build your own boat!
