: Definitely the symptom of a cheap router-the horrible screech noise (and your
: repeated experience with
: router burnout.) If you were in the US I'd guess Sears-Robuck sold your
: routers. You'd save money if you bought a good router once and strangled
: cats for the annoying racket.

: Also to paraphrase Humphrey Bogart* "The cheaper the router, the higher
: the horsepower rating" Don't believe a $39 3-horse router. Under load
: it won't be half as powerful as a Porter-Cable 3/4 horse. That's a proven
: fact.

I agree if you buy rubbish then you put up with the consequences. The routers have lasted a total of thirty years I don't know how many hours they did, just not able to count. The second was the best that money could get at the time, It was replaced under waranty when the armature shed some bits at 25000 rpm, that was very spectacular!. I was cutting stair treds I think, and had to make a worried count of first hands and then fingers followed by any other damage in the rest of me,(no leaks). Even the cheaper routers around now seem to be better than my first one, I love the variable speed function, and the micro adjustments now.
