There's absolutely nothing wrong with experimenting. I've done my share. Many of us are so darn independent we feel compelled to do it our way. However, unless you are very experienced, you should understand that you might screw up some part of the boats behavior or make assembly more difficult than it needs to be. The designer has likely designed the boat to do things like be balanced in the wind, shed water well, and be built relatively easily. Maybe what you have in mind is no big deal. The person that would know best is the designer. Ask him. Otherwise build your boat and tell us how it worked out. I always like seeing other peoples innovations.
