Holmes, Another thing you might consider is mixing some graphite powder w/epoxy for a coating along the keel and football area. This combination is supposed to "wear like steel" or so I've heard. You may be able to use this and keep the overall layup lighter on the hull.
Can anyone w/ actual graphite/epoxy experience speak to that? I think it does not take very much graphite, no more than 10% of the mix?
OTOH, you may have a nice strip pattern on the hull that you don't want to obscure w/ a black coating. Just a thought.

: Hi Holmes,
: I think you'll be fine with a lighter weave on the outside. The 4 oz cloth on
: the deck and even using it to do your outer sheer. Opt howerer for the
: heavier layout on the hull, and use an epoxy thinner in your sealercoat.
: You are going to want to get your wood real hard, especially along the
: keel. So take extra care and get let the resin seep deep into the wood.
: Get the resin as liquide as possible and work into the wood. Then do a
: double layup of 4 oz cloth along the bottum of the hull. This should help
: with hard landings.
: kind regards,
