With your proposed usage, I'd say go with the 4 oz for sure. I agree with Mike's post that less can be more, especially given that you're not anticipating heavy banging around. I believe, based on my boat's layup and weight that your proposed layup will get you to the weight range you want with 4 oz glass but you'll still have to be very careful not to put any epoxy where it's not specifically needed. I've mixed up dozens of small batches of epoxy for little parts here and there and it's tempting to think that none of them are significant, weight wise. But taken together, they are all critical.

On the graphite topic. I had a long conversation with Tig (Mikey) about this before he left on his world cruise. He's a really smart guy and he convinced me (I like to think I'm smart) that all the "slipperiness" that people feel with their hands was not translated to the real world (rock on hull). It does represent an additional layer of epoxy (weight) and his advice was just be careful and patch up the scratches at the end of the season in the normal manner. Until I see some actual testing under controlled conditions, I will remain a skeptic of applying graphite.
