This does not answer your question, but it is related to it.

I used 6 oz. cloth over the entire exterior, plus a 4 oz. layer as 2nd layer on the entire hull (plus a few 4 oz. strips on the bow and stern). The 4 oz. cloth was definitely easier to work with during epoxying. I don't know if anybody has done it the other way around (4 oz. on bottom, 6 oz. as 2nd layer), but that seems less desirable to me, having to periodically clean up and repair abrasions on 6 oz. glass. I think it'd be harder to feather in.

One thing I wish I'd done was to add a protective strip down the entire keel, not just at the bow and stern. The V bottom gets more abuse than I realized. Or maybe it's just that varnish scratches more easily than plastic.

I have considered the graphite option also (have a can of the stuff but no cabosil). Still weighing the pros and cons, but at this point I'm more inclined to just add a full keel strip rather than mess with sanding cabosil mixes.

Robert Pruden recently posted pix showing his ash rub strip. That's another possibility.
