Hey man, there just ain't nuthin' to steaming yer strips... Just get a good wet washrag and fold it over the strip where it needs to bend, then hit it with a good old clothes iron for a minnit. Check it out:

I believe your lip dimensions are good, based upon my experience with 4 ash lipped Schade-style coamings so far. 3/4" above the deck is gonna be snug, actually, and 1" would make it easier to hook up the skirt. Anything less than 3/4" is going to be like my Cormorant: a PITA. Pity. Using 3/8" wide strips for the lip sounds perfectly reasonable to me, and 1/8" thick is about as much as you're ever gonna get away with.

Try steaming pine before going out and buying ash is my advice. If it works, it'll be cheaper, and match your stem and stern pieces.
