try the reverse also. lay down some mylar or saran taped and then with a fat water based pen try your basic rythm and basic shape out(watch that the inkwater doesn't stain the yak). with a damp rag, erase areas and try out again.
i did this basic approach(water resis skin/waterbased pens) with a few 1/4 size models which helped me resolve some ideas better.
