I decided on the Shearwater Bluefin and have bought the kit.
It is narrower than the Solace 18EX and has more rocker. These factors make it a bigger change from my first S&G, a Chesapeake Light Craft 17LT, and I'm exploring by bounding the range I'm looking in, rather than edging toward a solution. I expect that the 21 inch beam of Bluefin is as narrow as I will ever go.
Yes the designers are very accomodating and I learned much my conversations with Waters Dancing and Shearwater.
