Don't know if you've seen the Shearwater Merganser 16.
I'm building it. Mine has a plywood hull and cedar strip deck.
I decided to go with this boat because it is the first I've built,
I wanted the look of a strip boat but also wanted a hard chine easy
to build hull. I bought plans and have built it from scratch.
Jim Kosel has built several of these and has given great reviews of it.
Mine is 16'6 long with a 21" beam and can weigh as little as 38 lbs.
You can also make a 17'6 with I believe a 23" beam. I'm just about ready
to attach the deck to the hull. I find it amazing that I can pick up
the whole boat by myself.
