I found that the method Rod describes worked the best with the West System epoxy I had generally used. My first boat was done using a roller and the roller did introduce more air than a squeegee. For a seal coat I generally use the squeegee to spread epoxy at the top after pouring the epoxy on in large amounts. I used quick squeegeeing motions to spread the epoxy around. I then tipped off with a brush in areas where a brush was more effective, such as in any unfilled grooves I missed during the initial panel stitching and gluing.
For glassing I now always use the squeegee exclusively. Once the seal coat is tacky I lay out the glass (having precut and prefit the glass prior to seal coating) then pour on lots of epoxy, use the squeegee to spread along the keel and gradually work the epoxy down to the sides. I get a good finish each time I use this method. I have had a few air pockets to deal along some joints afterwards. I use a syringe to inject epoxy into those pockets. I tend to stay with this part of the project from initial seal coat until the final fill coat is done so that I don't have to worry about washing any amine blush. I am careful to layout the glass as smoothly as possible to minimize any bumps, especially at the bow and stern where the glass tends to get folded over.
I lose some sleep this way but the kayak gets glassed quickly and effectively within a 24-hour period. That allows me to take advantage of good gluing weather, something I don't get enough of up here.
I hope this helps. There are lots of good ways to do this, the method you use depends on where you live and what you want to accomplish in your allotted time period.
