I just used a hand saw with a Makita metal cutting jig saw blade. I didn't try to keep the cut vertical ... I just kept the blade perpendicular to the deck. I used a drill mounted sanding drum to sand the cut edge to vertical. I use the same procedure when I use a powered jig saw. Both methods work fine ... a little more care is required with the powered jig saw.
