Yes an upside down skeg box describes it well. The link below is of my ideas 18 months ago and before I saw that it had already been done. The lower mount is a disadvantage of the system since it will be easier to damage then one higher up, but that will only be when seal launching etc on a steep slop or having the stern dumped on a rock by a wave. Both scenerios are avoidable but the risk is greater.

One of the joys of building your own yak is that you can experiment with these different ideas :)
