Having built two Pygmy boats this strikes me as a pretty good idea.

Paul raises some good points, but I think you can get around them given what you're building. Given that you're doing a S&G Tern 14, the edges are square so the waviness shouldn't be bad at all - I don't think I'd try this on a strip built, but on the Tern it should be OK.

All you have to do is use black-pigmented epoxy when you glue the seams (as opposed to the clear epoxy you'd use anyway). I did find that some does drip through when you epoxy/glue the deck seams and you have to fill the low spots once the first round dries. That brings up the only thing where you'd have to be careful - being sure to get exactly the same ratio of epoxy to pigment for each batch of epoxy you mix so you have a uniform color.
