I have a CLC 16’ that is 5+ years old and need of a complete refinishing, a nice solid kayak that needs some TLC. I was musing the other day over what to do with the CLC and it struck me that I could modify this into a “hybrid” kayak with a great strip deck. I have enough strips left over from the 2 strip kayaks built for my kids, and figured this could be an interesting project for this winter.
Does anyone have experience taking a perfectly good stitch and glue and modifying into a hybrid? I am crazy to think I can basically cut off the deck, build forms and strip the deck? Seems feasible as lots of hybrids kayaks are available as kits today. Suggestions?
