: Are you talking about a GPS system that provides instructions and miniature
: maps while you are underway? I tried such a system in a rental car and got
: terribly frustrated with it. Is it not easier to use a basic GPS in
: conjunction with maps of your region? You'd have to use topo maps
: alongside road maps so that you could correlate your GPS-reported position
: with the roadways.
: But, heck, wouldn't that be lots of fun?
My laptop screen is 15 inches so the map will be quite big. I think I have the learning curve under my belt by practicing with my desktop computer. The Garmin 18 comes with a GPS and the program to load into the laptop that contains all the maps. I have my one day trip loaded and ready to go after labor day. I’ll give a report after the trip on just how well it worked. The round trip is 230 miles so I will leave in the dark and come home in the dark. The map automatically turns to a night vision screen and when daylight arrives it turns to day driving mode. So I’m kind of excited to get going and see just how good this is.
