Thanks to all responders for the advice. Yes, it is expensive to have unused tools sitting around, and some of you are quite clever and creative in designing your own! I will build my own fairing boards out of some thin veneer scrap from my completed CLC kit Skerry (sometimes the wrong panels get glued together when one is working too late and too tired...don't ask); will look for a cheap belt sander that doesn't mind working upside down (perhaps one from Down Under), and look for deals on scrapers, etc. on ebay.
