Thanks for all the advice - it sounds like it shouldn't be a big deal! I have the cable already, purchased 2 years ago from GRO. I just never got around to installing it but sometimes I miss the skeg. I have some good Felco cable cutters that make a very clean cut, so I think that will be ok. My thinking in securing the cable housing is that flexing when deploying the skeg presumably increases friction, but maybe that's not true (I wouldn't be adding or increasing the bends). What about the theory that lubrication picks up grit?
