: Bill,
: Brian Nystrom is correct. The traditional way was to drill holes through the
: gunwale very near the top edge (kept the rigging higher Aabove the
: waterline to help keep the noise down from rigging gurgling in the water
: if submerged) and angled downward to exit the inside of the gunwale an
: inch or inch and a half down to keep any knot that was used away from the
: deck skin.
: I recently finished a modern design race boat using traditional SOF
: techniques. The foredeck rigging was done as I described but using
: 1/4" shock cord, but the aft deck riggin was installed by sewing
: loops of strapping to the skin aft of the cockpit before coating it, and
: running the deck rigging through the loops. See photo attached ( if I do
: it right!!)The deck is so low aft that I didn't want to have the rigging
: dragging in the water as the boat heeled and put the gunwales under. No
: fear of noise scaring a seal but drag.
Brian, Kent and Dave,
Thanks
This boat won't be anywhere near traditional, but it's still sort of a skin boat, conventional (modern) techniques don't always work.
Dave, your pictures didn't show up, would love to see them.
