I'm wondering Bill, do you realize who Harvey is? He is the author of Kayaks of Greenland, http://www.traditionalkayaks.com/KOG.html and has surveyed many SOF kayaks as well as reconstructing quite a few.

The frames on many Greenland boats are quite strong, often more heavily built than the typical recreational SOF is today. While the skin will shrink, the wood has minimal shrinkage and unless the frame is bent or broken, its size and shape will be very close to the original. While many surveyed kayaks have damaged frames, some do not. Harvey can probably tell you how many qajaqs with intact frames he has surveyed.
