: Bill,
: SOF race kayak ia 18'6" x 17.75" max beam with a waterline beam of
: about 14.5" and weighs about 35# all rigged up. Susan completed the
: Blackburn in it powering through the 4' waves and 20 kt beam winds at the
: bottom of the course. Boat proved to be fairly neutral with no weather
: cocking in those conditions which was the greatest unknown for me. It is
: not as fast as her surf ski in flat water but faster in rougher conditions
: and that was the design parameters: be a good open water race boat that
: was rollable ( hence the need for a high foredeck as the knees pump up and
: down under the deck so she can lock in to roll if necessary). I
: transutioned that foredeck into a wave piercing bow to minimize speed
: robbing hobbyhorsing and damn if it all didn't work as planned!! It may
: have been faster as a strip or S&G (I think )but I only do SOF boats.

Hi Dave,

Hmm...after looking at this boat of yours and after having scarfed up the wood for my stringers way long (20 1/2') and not wanting to just chop these really nice long pieces of clear cedar, I'm now expanding the current project a little. Had good luck in the past making very small scale expansions of length of boat plans, and this is experimental anyway, so boat's length has grown from 17 1/2' to 19 1/2' :) sounds like alot but the expansion of the frame spacing uses a multiplier of only 1.1

I don't think I could get my butt into a 17" kayak width :)
