I used Jay's retention system on my flush hatches and they work! They've been thoroughly tested numerous times, including a maytag session in my local river this year - ooops :)

The knobs are made of matching strips and glassed on both sides with 4oz cloth. Crossbars are ash with minicell gripper pads on each end. Hatch construction itself was the Vaclav method.

I'll post a pic or two tomorrow for consideration.
