I put "temporary" under deck bungies on the DB and they work really great and you can't see anything at all. You do have to have good hatch drains cut into the deck edges or you'll never get the hatches back out of the hole. Everyone asks how I've held the hatches down with no visible means of support :)

I am though planning on external bungies that can be released to remove the hatches at a later date, the boat is already built to allow these, just have to take the time to add them. These will be like the external part of Seaward Kayak's hatches.

Btw, you can learn alot at your local kayak dealer, just have to have a critical eye and see what production designers used that work well, and what hasn't.
