The original shape is ‘better’ – ie much more readily faired as you say. But that shape will be more irrevocably changed if you add a crease intersection to one of those originally few gorgeous points.

Like lets take a stupid example of a creased chine or edge being defined by 3 points – bow, ctr and stern. And then for some reason, you intersect a panel right at the ctr point. I don’t have freeship loaded to check it, but I bet that nice original curve now is a triangle. No more curve, way wider than it was before. I bet the curve jumps 2 or more inches.

To account for the intersection and to try and get back shape, you have to remember where the curve was originally and exactly move the intersection point to touch that curve (hence using markers), and then you have to add at least a point on each side of the intersection point to try and get the triangle to start behaving like a curve.
