Hi Rob,

Well obviously it can work as some including you have done it. The problem is the average placement of a compass is normally near the fore hatch, suppose though it doesn't have to be there.

Still best to not put a magnetic compass anywhere near a strong magnet, it's not my idea, rather a standard in the marine industry.

Also with the price of handheld GPS's it's not really an issue, can always use their compass which isn't magnetic.
