I replaced the kit seat in my Arctic Tern with a backband, connecting the side bands to the holes in the wood braces where the old plastic seat attached. The band seemed to ride too low on my back, and not give me enough support. At a recent event, I saw a Tern with the backband side bands attached higher up--directly into the interior side of the cockpit rim. This seems like a good idea, but I'm not sure what kind of hardware I should use to attach the band here. Drilling all the way through to the outside of the cockpit rim and inserting a nut and bolt would be a bad idea. The cockpit rim is only about an inch wide. An alternative would be to drill down from the cockpit lip into the lower rim.
I'd appreciate any advice about how to do this, what hardware to use, or if you think this is a really bad idea.
