Clay, I've worked with several epoxy systems and found that the fumage and smells vary a bit from one to another. Some are pleasant and I think some are somewhat less than tolerable. Whatever epoxy you get, it'll at least become cloying after a while but possibly aggravating. Epoxies aren't as volatile as products with solvents though. It'll work out fine if you close off air flow between basement and house.
I'm building mine in my living room and ventilation hasn't been a problem. I do know someone that built her boat in her living room and she had a lot of irritation and other issues from exposure to the epoxy. It's really easy to adhere to the safety precautions and be safe with epoxy.
