I grew up with imperial system, then in the 70s Australia moved to metric. I agree still easier to think mpg for me than litres per 100 kms. I still like feet and inches when I am thinking how tall someone is but funnily enough kgs make more sense when I am thinking how heavy they are. My kids dont have a clue what a mile looks like, let alone a chain or a fathom etc and they dont sweat those math classes where you have to figure out how many ounces in 3 stone 9 lb 6 etc, so there are advantages.
